Benoit says Wildomar can take its finger off the pause button

A crowd of about 100 people attend Wildomar's 2018 State of the City address hosted by Mayor Ben J. Benoit, Oct. 17.

Wildomar Mayor Ben J. Benoit opened his State of the City address Wednesday, Oct. 17, with a short refresher course on the history of the city – including the truth about how the city got its name.

"There was a time when Wildomar was the hub of the area," Benoit said. "Just so everyone knows. I'm sure a few Wildomarians know this story, but the story goes that the name of Wildomar is derived from our three founders – 'wil' from William Collier, 'do' for Donald Graham and 'mar' for Mara Graham, wife of Donald Graham and sister of William Collier."

The lion's share of existing (before AA) sales taxes go to the state's general fund. And, both the state and the county are good at finding new ways to appropriate local tax funds. It would be better for local economies if more effort were directed at causing changes in existing tax allocations rather than charging local taxpayers higher rates.
