Vista Murrieta junior Veneicia Zaia shoots a final-round 70, taking a two-stroke victory with her in the race for Southwestern League MVP honors.

The Southwestern League girls golf finals took place on the Palms Course at Menifee Lakes Country Club in Menifee last week, with Vista Murrieta High School junior Venecia Zaia taking the top spot. Zaia birdied the par-5 14th hole as part of a three-shot swing with Murrieta Mesa High School freshman Angela Heo en route to a final-round 70, which gave the junior a two-stroke victory in the race for Southwestern League MVP honors.

With birdies on holes 9, 11, 14 and 17, Zaia went from one shot behind Heo to five shots ahead and finished with a 1-over 143 total in the 36-hole event. It was a...
