Last updated 11/4/2018 at 11:23am

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department on Saturday, Nov. 3, reported the death of a man following an alleged altercation that ultimately claimed the life of a man at a Temecula home.

According to police, at approximately 8:15 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, officers from the Temecula Police Department responded to an assault at a residence on the 32000 block of Merlot Court, in Temecula. Police said the reporting party said he had been assaulted by an adult male family member who was still inside the residence.

When officers arrived, officers found a seriously injured adult male victim lying on the driveway and found the suspect inside the residence, also with a serious injury.

While waiting for paramedics to arrive, the police said the suspect stopped breathing and officers began life-saving measures to resuscitate him. However, officers and paramedics were unable to save the man and he was pronounced deceased at the scene. The identity of the man has not been released.

The victim in this case was transported to an area hospital where he is receiving treatment and is expected to survive.

Because officers were on the scene during the suspect's death, investigators from the Sheriff's Central Homicide Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The investigation is still ongoing.

The Temecula Police Department is asking that anyone with information regarding this incident contact Central Homicide Investigator Stoyer at (951) 955-2777, or Temecula Police Department Investigator Fisher at (951) 696-3000.
