AGUANGA - A man was struck by a golf cart at an Aguanga mobile home park on Tuesday, Nov. 27 and was airlifted for treatment of major head trauma to an area hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the golf cart, whose name was not released, was transported to Rancho Springs Medical Center with injuries and was released later in the day.

The pedestrian, whose name was not released, was injured about 10:15 a.m. at the Rancho California RV Park in the 45500 block of state Route 79, according to the California Highway Patrol.

According to a report distributed by the California Highway Patrol, the driver of the golf cart, 73, was traveling eastbound on Sante Fe North at approximately 10 miles per hour in his EZ-Go Golf Cart in the private RV community of Rancho Cal RV Resort. A 77-year-old man was walking on Sante Fe North in a westerly direction at the north roadway near Sante Fe Lane when witnesses said they saw the man begin to walk in a southerly direction in front of the driver of the golf cart.

Witnesses said the driver struck the pedestrian with the front end of his golf cart, knocking the man back to the asphalt, causing major trauma to the man's head.

A patrol officer reached the location within a few minutes and found the victim on the ground, in need of medical attention. Riverside County Fire Department paramedics were summoned, and after they examined the man, a Cal Fire helicopter crew was summoned to transport him to Inland Valley Hospital.

The CHP is conducting the traffic collision investigation and there was no indication in the report that charges or citations were issued in the incident.
