TEMECULA – Applications for Bank of America’s Student Leaders program opened Nov. 11. The program gives high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to gain real-world professional experience while making a difference in their community.

Through the program, five high school students will take part in an eight-week paid internship at a local nonprofit organization such as Boys and Girls Clubs of America and Habitat for Humanity where they develop civic, social and business leadership skills, learning firsthand the critical role nonprofits play in a community, as well as attend a leadership summit in Washington with over 200 students from around the county. Since 2004, 65 students have been selected as Student Leaders from Inland Empire.

Simmy Grewal, a 2018 Student Leader from Riverside, spent her summer working at Riverside Art Museum, helping with their art education programs.

“After widening my perspectives on our nation’s most pressing issues through the Bank of America Student Leaders program, I’ve realized how much power youth have to make the world fair and just,” Grewal said. “I’ve learned how vital to serve all of those who don’t have a voice, inspire others through exhibiting kindness that transcends the differences between one another, and change the world into a place where people have the right to be the person they want to be. I will use what I have learned from the summit for the rest of my life.”

Student Leaders must currently be a junior or senior in high school; be able to participate in an eight-week paid internship at a local nonprofit organization and work 35 hours a week; be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship through the end of September 2019; be able to participate in a weeklong all-expenses-paid Student Leaders Summit in the District of Columbia from July 8-13; be a student in good standing at your school and obtain a letter of recommendation from a teacher, guidance counselor or school administrator.

The deadline to apply is Friday, Feb. 1, and more details can be found at http://www.bankofamerica.com/studentleaders.
