The Batter Up Charity Baseball Tournament, being held Dec. 7-9, will benefit the Champions League, a special needs division that is a part of the Temecula Youth Baseball League.

Temecula's Comprehensive Autism Center is teaming up with the Champions League of Temecula Youth Baseball (TYB) to hold a Batter Up Charity Baseball Tournament the weekend of Dec. 7-9.

The Champions League of TYB has been around since 2012 and is a league dedicated to teaching the game of baseball to the special needs children in our community. Unfortunately, funds have not been readily available and there have been talks of shutting down this division. This would be devastating to current and future players and their families in our community as they may already have limited resources.

"Along with Cristhian Gironas (tournament director), property manager of the Silverhawk and Butterfield Ranch Self Storage companies, we have created a charity tournament to help raise funds for the Champions League. We have also teamed up with Toys 4 Tots Inland Empire to run a toy drive in parallel to our charity baseball tournament," says Ashley Tousignant, Marketing Brand Associate with the Comprehensive Autism Center.

Opening Ceremonies will be held at Lake Elsinore Storm Stadium Friday, Dec. 7, where the teams competing in the tournament, alongside the players in the Champion League will get to walk the bases and take a team photo. A Home Run Derby for the older high school youths will also take place, as well as a skills challenge and the event will also have food trucks on hand. This event is completely open to the public and is a free event.

"We wanted to give these special needs children an opportunity to feel included in a safe environment, added Tousignant.

The rest of the competitive youth tournament will take place Saturday, Dec. 8, and Sunday, Dec. 9, with multiple college and independent scouts in attendance.

"We really want this to be a good showcase for players as well," says Gironas.

A Champions League Baseball Game will be held at Murrieta Mesa HS for the special needs players in our community Sunday, Dec.9, and will get the opportunity to play baseball with their peers.

"We are encouraging parents to be involved as well and are expecting to have Storm Baseball players, local high school players, and possibly professional players in attendance. We really want to cultivate a loving, nurturing and caring event for the special needs families in our community," added Gironas.
