State highway near Idyllwild reopens ahead of schedule

IDYLLWILD - A stretch of state highway near Idyllwild that was shut down to repair a roadside storm culvert was reopened on Wednesday, Dec. 12, two days ahead of schedule.

State Route 243 was closed northwest of Lake Fulmor beginning at 9 a.m. last Friday so crews could do the work. The project was done out of concern that the old drain could lead to roadway flooding in the event of major rainstorms.

The stretch of highway, which sits between Banning and Idyllwild, was reopened in both directions this afternoon, according to Caltrans. However, work was expected to continue over the next few weeks to complete all the repairs needed.
