Winter storm wreaks havoc in Lake Elsinore

Evacuations of burn scar areas, flooding, multiple accidents and reports of mudslides were par for the course when a winter storm swept through the area recently.

The two-day storm, which hit the area Wednesday, Dec. 5, and Thursday, Dec. 6, dumped more than 2 inches of rain in some areas and even brought snow to the mountain community of Idyllwild.

In Lake Elsinore, where 2.02 inches of rain fell in less than 48 hours, mandatory evacuations were issued for the Holy Fire burn scar area including the Glen Ivy and Horsethief Canyon communities. Large runoff was observed in several canyons ac...
