Long is honored for service at Murrieta council meeting

Last updated 12/20/2018 at 11:21pm

After choosing not to run for re-election to the Murrieta City Council in November, Mayor Pro Tem Alan Long was celebrated by the council and visiting dignitaries at the Dec. 4 meeting of the council.

Long, a battalion chief for a fire department in Southern California, has served on more than a dozen committees during his eight years on the council, including stints on the Southern California Association of Governments, Riverside Transit Agency, 9/11 Memorial Subcommittee, Youth, Family and Health Regional Task Force Subcommittee, Emergency Medical Services Subcommittee and many more.

Kudos and words like 'friend' are sometimes tossed out a tad too freely at farewell events. But Alan Long, in my opinion, deserves the high recognition he recently received. He has been good for Murrieta, and has demonstrated a personal steel that carried him through some crises during his term in office that would have knocked many among us off our feet. 'Thank you' for so much, Mr. Long.
