Officer involved shooting reported in Lake Elsinore

An officer-involved shooting occurred in Lake Elsinore Thursday, Dec. 20, according to social media postings, including a video shot by a bystander who observed the incident as it occurred.

The shooting occurred near the intersection of Collier and Chaney Street at about 4 p.m.

At 10 p.m., City News Service was reporting that the suspect who was wounded in the shooting had died, according to the Riverside County Sheriffs department.

According to the video poster, there was a police chase that ended with the suspect of the unknown crime allegedly being shot by police, something Lake Elsinore Mayor Steve Manos confirmed with a posting on Facebook, just before 5 p.m.

"Captain Anne contacted city staff a short time ago relative to an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Collier/Chaney roughly 30 minutes ago today," Manos said. "Thankfully our officers were not injured in the exchange."

Officers are conducting an investigation into an officer involved shooting in Lake Elsinore, thursday, Dec. 20.

The video shows the shooting victim, who had unknown injuries, being loaded onto a stretcher, before being transported to the hospital by ambulance.

"This is a fluid situation with an ongoing investigation," Manos said. "We will provide more details once they become available."

The Riverside County Sheriff Department Public Information office failed to return phone calls before this story was published but did take to Twitter to share some details of what had occurred.

According to the Tweet, the suspect was transported to the hospital in unknown condition. No officers or members of the public were injured in the incident.

The investigation is still ongoing and police are asking motorists to avoid the area.
