Leads sought in downtown Hemet shooting death

HEMET - Detectives in Hemet on Monday, Dec. 31 asked for the public's help in identifying a suspect or suspects in the shooting death of a 28-year-old man.

Juan Romero was fatally shot about 10 p.m. Friday in the 100 block of North Tahquitz Street, near Florida Avenue, in the downtown area, according to Hemet police Lt. Jeff Davis.

Patrol officers were called to the location to investigate reports of shots fired and found Romero suffering from bullet wounds to the upper body.

The victim was rushed to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley, where he died a short time later.

Detectives collected evidence at the scene, and a search was conducted, without netting the perpetrator.

A possible motive was not disclosed.
