Cause of Lake Elsinore fish die-off could be related to Holy Fire, officials say

Perhaps as many as 1,000 fish have died recently in Lake Elsinore, and there’s some speculation that the cause is a runoff of fire retardant and other chemicals used in fighting the Holy Fire this past summer.

“At this point, we’re not really 100 percent certain what caused it,” Nicole Dailey, assistant city manager of Lake Elsinore, said. “We do speculate that it’s potentially because the waters have been affected by the water spilling down from canyons and mountainside from the Holy Fire.”
