LAKE ELSINORE - A 30-year-old Lake Elsinore resident was taken into custody and charged with vehicle theft, recklessly evading law enforcement and parole violations when he was apprehended following a short pursuit after police tried to pull him over in a stolen vehicle.

Police said Carlos Chavez Castillo, 30, of Lake Elsinore was seen driving a red Hyundai SUV reported stolen earlier on Thursday, Jan. 10 in the area of Riverside Drive and Walnut Drive in Lake Elsinore.

When officers from the Lake Elsinore Police Department’s Problem Oriented Policing Team attempted to conduct an enforcement stop, police said Castillo evaded and led them on a pursuit.

The pursuit concluded when the suspect collided with a fence and the vehicle became disabled. There were no injuries to bystanders or deputies as a result of this incident.
