IDYLLWILD - A pile of rocks rolled onto state Route 243 between Idyllwild and Banning this afternoon, disrupting travel but not causing any accidents.

The rockslide was reported about 2:50 p.m. near Skyland Ranch, just south of Mellor Ranch Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

An officer at the CHP's San Gorgonio station said the rocks were cleared from the highway before 4 p.m., but he was not certain whether a Caltrans crew had removed them or passers-by took care of the problem.

The area has received snowfall and rain over the last week.

In January 2016, winter storms caused a rockslide just north of Idyllwild, leaving a 48-ton boulder in the middle of the highway. It was closed for several days while crews removed the rock and repaired surface damage to the road.
