Lake Elsinore Police conduct collision factor enforcement operation

LAKE ELSINORE - The Lake Elsinore Police Department reported on Thursday, Jan. 24 the results of a special enforcement operation the department conducted on Wednesday, Jan. 23 in an effort to reduce fatal traffic collisions in the city.

In all, 50 drivers were cited for hazardous moving violations, two drivers were cited for licensing violations, one vehicle was impounded, two other citations were issued, and one driver was arrested for an outstanding felony warrant.

The department had mapped out locations where fatal accidents have occurred and sent officers out looking for violations made by drivers that could cause a fatality accident.

The Lake Elsinore Police Department reported that it has investigated 29 fatal collisions during the past three years and that California witnessed 3,680 traffic deaths in 2016 alone.

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
