Supervisors approve Pathfinder Ranch rezone, conditional use permit

The Riverside County Board of Supervisors approved a rezone and Conditional Use Permit modification for the Pathfinder Ranch camp in Mountain Center.

The supervisors’ 5-0 vote, Jan. 29, changes the zoning of the 28.82-acre parcel from Residential Agriculture, 20-acre minimum lot size, to Natural Assets and allows one additional building and one expanded building which will not increase the number of campers.

Pathfinder Ranch is located in the 35500 block of Pathfinder Road. It is a summer camp for boys and girls clubs and an outdoor education camp for schools, and it is also used for retreats, conferences, church groups and foster family groups. The camp sessions typically involve between 60 and 180 participants. The land has a general plan land use designation of Open Space Recreational.

The Conditional Use Permit modification will allow construction of a new 2,349 square foot building which will become a visitor center and also the new administration building. The existing dining hall building will be expanded by 150 square feet, which will allow for a food service manager’s office.
