Murrieta native Joelle James is nominated for two Grammy Awards on Sunday night.

On Sunday, Feb. 10, Murrieta Valley High School graduate Joelle James will find out if she's won a Grammy Award (or maybe two) when the annual awards ceremony takes place at Staples Center.

"Boo'd Up," which James wrote and performed several years earlier and was reimagined by producer DJ Mustard, L.A. producer, and songwriter Larrance Dopson, and performed by Ella Mai, is nominated for song of the year and R&B song of the year.

The video for the song can be viewed here:

The song spent 16 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay Chart.

James, a singer/songwriter with RocNation who now lives in Los Angeles, grew up performing all over the area in local showcases and performed on shows such as "Star Search," "American Idol," and "America's Most Talented Kids."

After graduating from Murrieta Valley, she moved on to Berklee College of Music and graduated with a degree in Music Studies and Voice.

If all goes well on Sunday night, she will be a Grammy Award-winning songwriter.

"I just want to write and share compelling stories," James told the Los Angeles Times. "I want to be that kind of songwriter and make the meaningful songs that people can relate to."

Watch the 2019 Grammys at 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10 on CBS.

What is it about SWRC? It seems to be a breeding ground for talent of all varieties. Ms. James, Tori Kelly, Brewer Boys, Xenia, and more... And in sports, Wimbledon and golf champs, rising stars in football and other team sports... and in literature too... and the list goes on and on. I've lived in other far more populous areas for periods long enough to know that they simply don't produce the kind of talent that seems regularly bred in this area. And I wonder, What is it?
