ANZA - Four people were injured, two of them seriously, when a vehicle smashed into a tree and overturned on State Route 74 on Sunday, Feb. 10.

The crash was reported at 8:37 a.m. on the eastbound side of the highway, near Apple Canyon Road, about eight miles north of Anza, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A caller told a CHP dispatcher that the vehicle ended up on its roof after hitting a tree, and Riverside County firefighters had to extricate two people from the wreckage.

Two people suffered serious injuries, a third person suffered moderate injuries and fourth escaped with only minor injuries, fire officials said.

At least one person had to be flown to a hospital via an air ambulance.

The crash prompted one lane on the two-lane highway to be shut down while the scene was cleared.
