TEMECULA - A black BMW that began smoking and then became fully engulfed in flames just after noon caused traffic on southbound Interstate 15 to come to a grinding halt on Wednesday, Feb. 20.

The driver of the car, which had pulled over to the right-hand shoulder, did not appear to be injured. The California Highway Patrol closed the No. 4 lane and firefighters extinguished the flames.

Traffic breaks by the CHP began shortly after the report of smoke at Temecula Parkway and traffic was delayed about 20 minutes heading into Rainbow.

No further information was made available.
