Rancho Damacitas continues to change lives with new mission

Lauren Wharton with her ten-month-old daughter Aurora are residents at the Rancho Damacitas Children and Family Services. Rancho Damacitas has recently transitioned from foster child care to shelter and services for single mothers with children in need.

It has been just over a year since Rancho Damacitas changed its focus from foster children to single mothers. In that year, the program continues to make strides in helping those mothers achieve their goals of being the best they can be.

Rancho Damacitas' mission is to break the generational cycle of abuse and poverty by empowering at-risk, single mothers with young children and individuals with a history of foster care or child abuse, according to CEO Cal Winslow.

"These moms are just desperate to have a break, and it really is working," he said.
