MURRIETA - The Murrieta Police Department announced on social media that Alta Murrieta Drive is closed between Murrieta Hot Springs Road and Rockcrest Drive due to a large sinkhole discovered on Wednesday, Feb. 20.

At 4:45 p.m., the department reported that "only a portion of Alta Murrieta will be closed. You can turn onto Alta Murrieta from Murrieta Hot Springs and enter both shopping centers (east side and west side.) You can also use the exit in the shopping center behind Burlington Coat Factory and turning north on Alta Murrieta."

The Murrieta Public Works Department is working to repair the damage.

No timeline was established for how long the road will continue to be affected.
