Heavy rain, flooding hammers southwest Riverside County

Heavy rain floods a neighborhood along Alvarado Street in Lake Elsinore, Feb. 14.

The most powerful storm to hit southwest Riverside County this season battered the region Wednesday night through Friday evening, wreaking havoc on area roads and communities and drenching the area with more than 3 inches of rain, and in some places, more than 5 inches.

According to the National Weather Service, Temecula led the way with 5.78 inches of rain between the evening of Wednesday, Feb. 13, and 2 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15.

North Lake Elsinore logged 5.23 inches of rain, Murrieta received 3.96 inches, French Valley and Menifee both received 3.28 inches. More than 4 inches fell in Hemet...
