This map shows the detour routes advised by the City of Murrieta to get around the work that is being done on Alta Murrieta Drive due to a sinkhole caused by a water drain pipe failure.

MURRIETA - The City of Murrieta on Monday, March 4, updated the progress of work on a sinkhole that appeared on Alta Murrieta Drive, north of Murrieta Hot Springs Road, to the east of the Murrieta Town Center shopping center, and closed the road to through traffic on Feb. 21.

According to the city, the sinkhole was "caused by the failure of a 72-inch storm water drain pipe which is located approximately 20 feet below the surface of the road."

The city now expects repairs to the road to be completed by March 15 but is dependent on the amount of rain the area receives.

They reported that work crews are in the process of completing the repair to the storm drain line. Next, they will fill the hole and then resurface the road.
