Gregory Brandt, 33, and Jasmine Rugga, 27, were arrested in the death of their daughter this week.

MENIFEE - The parents of a 5-week-old girl who died at a hospital in Menifee in January were arrested this week in connection with her death, authorities said on Thursday, March 14.

The girl's parents, Gregory Brandt, 33, and Jasmine Rugga, 27, took the child from their home in the 28000 block of Avenida Marbella to a hospital on Jan. 26, where the child died after medical staff could not resuscitate her, according to Sgt. Wallace Clear of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

An investigation was started and evidence collected in the days after the girl's death led detectives to believe foul play was involved, Clear said.

Brandt was arrested for suspicion of murder and Rugga for suspicion of child endangerment on Monday, Clear said. Bail was set at $1 million for Brandt and $35,000 for Rugga. Both were being held at the Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrietta.

Anyone with information regarding this case was asked to call Investigator Salisbury at (951) 210-1000 or Investigator Trudeau at (951) 955-2777.
