HEMET - An 18-year-old Hemet man suspected of shooting at two boys, wounding one, in a gated community was being held without bail on Thursday, March 21.

Devion Tyresh Washington was arrested and booked into the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on Tuesday night on suspicion of attempted murder, robbery and conspiracy.

A second man was also taken into custody on suspicion of being an accessory to a felony. However, the 20-year-old Perris resident was released after further investigation, with no pending court dates, according to jail records.

Hemet police Lt. Jeff Davis said that about 2 p.m. Tuesday, Washington went to the Willow Walk Community off of Mustang Way and Sanderson Avenue, where he allegedly opened fire on the victims, identified only as juveniles.

One youth escaped injury, while the other suffered a non-life-threatening wound, according to Davis. The victim has since been treated and released from the hospital.

The lieutenant said detectives gathered sufficient information to identify Washington as the alleged perpetrator, and he was taken into custody without incident hours later on Cawston Avenue.

Davis said the attack was likely connected to a March 12 shooting in the same general area, but he declined to disclose any further details.

Washington has no documented prior felony convictions.
