Driver dies after crashing during drag race at Soboba Resort

SAN JACINTO - A driver was killed on Friday, March 22 after crashing during a drag race in San Jacinto.

It happened about 2:45 p.m. on the dirt track in the 23300 block of Soboba Road, the California Highway Patrol said.

Authorities said the victim, whose identity was not immediately released, went off of the track and overturned in a dry wash.

Riverside County Fire Department personnel were sent to the location and extracted the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The type of vehicle the victim was driving and the event in which he was competing were not immediately known.

Sheriff's deputies were handling the accident investigation.

The original publishing of this story reported that the drag racing event was at Soboba Casino Resort. The Soboba tribe leases the land but is in no way affiliated with the drag races or race organizers.
