The Ramona Spring Festival kicks off the "Ramona" pageant with an event on Harvard Street in Hemet, offering a variety of entertainment, attractions and vendors, April 6.

The annual Ramona Spring Festival kicked off the "Ramona" pageant season Saturday, April 6.

Visitors to Hemet's Harvard Street were treated to many activities including shopping, live entertainment and even classic cars on display.

A children's costume contest was held for the youngsters and children dressed as characters from the play "Ramona," including Alessandro, the Señora, the evil Farrar and the play's lead character, Ramona. Prizes included tickets to the pageant and gift certificates to Downtown Deli. Winners will appear onstage at the Ramona Bowl, alongside the characters who inspired their costumes.

Those who enjoy history were able to take the Magical History Tour aboard the Ramona Trolley to see downtown Hemet and pictures of historical buildings as they looked when first constructed while listening to a narrator who told the story of Hemet's early days.

"Ramona," now in its 97th year, is California's Official Outdoor Play and the longest continuously running outdoor drama in the United States.

This year's season of "Ramona" kicks off Saturday, April 13. The show runs April 13, April 14, April 27, April 28, May 4 and May 5, at 3:30 p.m. with gates opening at 1:30 p.m. Tickets start at $19 and can be purchased online at
