HS Girls' Lacrosse: Murrieta Mesa wins So-Cal Invitational

Murrieta Mesa High School brought home the first-place trophy from the So-Cal Invitational for high school girls' lacrosse Saturday, March 23.

The So-Cal Invitational for high school girls' lacrosse took place Saturday, March 23, and Murrieta Mesa High School swept the field, bringing home the first-place trophy. Murrieta Mesa's defense was on point keeping each of their four opponents to three or less goals on the day. The day started with a 16-1 win over Santa Fe Christian High School, then a 14-2 victory over Santana High School, 11-3 over Valley Center High School and in the Championship game they took out Bonita Vista High School 11-2.

"Our girls showed dominance in all their games," Murrieta Mesa's Head Coach Molly Sovacool said.

According to Sovacool, the standout players on the day were: Sara Watts with 11 goals, three assists, 14 draw controls and six interceptions; Erin Shaffer with 10 ground balls and four goals; Taylor Baggest with six goals; Carcie Chappell with seven goals; Deborah Ko with four goals, two assists and eight draw controls and Sydney Moreno with four goals and two assists.

Heading into this week, the lacrosse ladies of Murrieta Mesa were currently 7-5 on the season and 1-2 in league.
