The California Highway Patrol is investigating a possible homicide on Interstate 15 in Lake Elsinore, authorities have reported.

According to CHP Officer Mike Lassig, the incident, which occurred south of Main Street, has caused a hard lane closure of the No. 3 lane southbound in Lake Elsinore, a call came into to dispatch just after 7 a.m. Saturday, April 20.

"911 callers were advising CHP dispatch that there was an adult female running around on the right shoulder near traffic lanes and appeared too have blood on her," Lassig said, adding that CHP and Riverside County Sheriff deputies responded.

"There was in fact a female adult on the right shoulder, running around near a white box truck parked on the right shoulder," Lassig said. "The woman did appear to have blood on her."

The woman was detained after officers determined she was not physically injured, Lassig said.

"CHP and RSO located a deceased male behind the driver's seat of the box truck," Lassig said, adding that the CHP is conducting a potential homicide investigation.

"We are working the crime scene at the moment and have a hard closure of the No. 3 lane just south of Main Street," Lassig said.

According to Lassig it could be as late as 5 p.m. before that investigation is completed, so drivers through the area should expect long delays and exercise extreme caution when moving through the area of the investigation.

"Motorists should know that traffic is heavily congested both north and southbound so they should find alternate routes or expect lengthy delays," he said.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
