MENIFEE - A motorcyclist killed when he was struck by a car after crashing his bike on Interstate 215 in Menifee was identified on Monday, April 29 as a 34-year-old Escondido man.

Richard Rios was fatally injured about 4:30 a.m. Saturday on northbound I-215, just south of Scott Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Rios was in the slow lane when he tumbled off of his 2001 Honda CBR, landing in the fast lane.

Officer Mike Lassig said a 21-year-old woman driving a 2012 Volkswagen Passat north on I-215 at roughly 65 mph did not see Rios as he struggled to get to his feet after the crash and slammed into him.

"The victim was propelled in a northerly direction onto the roadway,'' Lassig said.

The Volkswagen driver immediately stopped and called 911.

Riverside County Fire Department paramedics arrived within a few minutes and pronounced Rios dead at the scene.
