HEMET - A fire that broke out on Friday, May 3 along the main east-west corridor through Hemet was contained before threatening any structures.

The non-injury blaze was reported about 12:15 p.m. adjacent to Florida Avenue, near Myers Street, according to the Hemet Fire Department.

Fire officials said multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames in a field on the westbound side of Florida, prompting police to close that side of the four-lane artery for public safety.

Firefighters battled the blaze for roughly 30 minutes before it was knocked down, according to reports from the scene.

The fire burned less than a quarter acre and Florida was re-opened at 12:50 p.m.

There was no word on what triggered the blaze.
