RIVERSIDE - Smoke drifting from the site of a blaze in western San Bernardino County is impacting the air quality in the Riverside metropolitan area, prompting regulators to issue a smoke advisory.

According to the South Coast Air Quality Management District, the now-contained fire at a dairy farm in Chino continues to burn, sending plumes of smoke over Corona, Eastvale, Jurupa Valley, Riverside, Moreno Valley, and even the Banning Pass.

Officials said PM2.5 concentrations are elevated throughout the area and will most likely remain that way into Thursday night due to weather conditions that include light winds and overcast skies.

"Air quality may reach unhealthy levels or higher in areas directly impacted by the smoke,'' according to the SCAQMD,

The agency recommended that people with respiratory disorders remain indoors, with windows and doors closed, as a precaution.

The fire erupted Tuesday night in the 8300 block of Pine Avenue, igniting hundreds of hay bales. No people or cattle were injured.
