LAKE PERRIS - A brush fire erupted on Monday, May 20 just south of Lake Perris, quickly scorching about two acres, but no homes or other structures were immediately threatened.

The non-injury blaze was reported at 1:50 p.m. along Foothill Avenue, just south of Orange Avenue, east of the Perris city limits, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Multiple engine crews were sent to the location, encountering a large column of smoke and flames burning in rolling terrain, according to reports from the scene.

A Cal Fire water-dropping helicopter was summoned to make runs on the blaze.

A battalion chief at the scene said that the fire had the potential to expand to six acres, but with predominately light winds, it was not expected to spread far.

There was no word on what might have triggered the blaze.
