MENIFEE - Authorities released new details on Sunday, May 26 about a fatal three-vehicle crash in Menifee that may have been caused by an intoxicated driver. The wreck happened at about 7:50 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Newport and Menifee roads, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The Riverside County Coroner also identified the 63-year-old man that died in the crash as Frank Dominguez of Menifee.

Investigators gathered witness statements and surveillance footage from a nearby business and determined that the driver of a westbound Honda Crosstour was speeding and struck a Dodge Charger, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said.

The impact of the crash caused the Honda's driver to lose control and ricochet into the intersection and slam into a BMW coupe that was waiting to turn onto Newport Road, according to sheriff's officials.

The driver of the BMW, a man, was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the Honda was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

"Driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs is currently being investigated as a possible factor in this collision,'' said Sgt. John Burke.
