Plane to be flown from Riverside to France for 'D-Day' remembrance

"D-Day Doll," a Douglas C-53D manufactured in 1943 and restored by the Inland Empire Wing of the Commemorative Air Force at Riverside Municipal Airport, will be among C-47s and other vintage birds participating in the D-Day 75th anniversary event in the skies over Normandy, France, June 5-6.

A Riverside-based aircraft that was used for missions into France during World War II will make a return trip to Europe for the 75th anniversary of the D-Day invasion, joining more than two dozen other historic transport planes that will mark the occasion next month with parachute drops.
