PERRIS - A man suspected of taking part in two armed robberies in Riverside and Perris was arrested, but his alleged partner-in-crime was still on the loose, a sheriff's sergeant said.

On Thursday morning, deputies were dispatched to a Circle K in the 19000 block of Harvill Avenue in Perris after two men barged in with semi-automatic guns, took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled in a 2009 Chevy Malibu, Riverside County Sheriff's Sgt. John Burke said.

A witness provided investigators with a possible license plate of the getaway vehicle, he said.

Authorities later learned that the two men who stuck up the Circle K were also suspected of an earlier burglary in Riverside, according to Burke.

One of the suspects was tracked down to a home in the 10200 block of Effen Street in Rancho Cucamonga, where deputies served a search warrant Friday. They arrested Ricardo Velazquez, 22, as he was leaving the home in the suspect vehicle. He was allegedly carrying a loaded semi-automatic handgun, Burke said.

Investigators collected additional evidence from the vehicle and home.

Velazquez was arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of second-degree robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.

He was released from jail Saturday after posting $30,000 bail.

Sheriff's officials said they have not yet been able to identify the second man who was involved in the robberies.
