WILDOMAR - The six-car collision took the life of a Murrieta woman on Tuesday, June 4 on Interstate 15 in Temecula, affected the lives of everyone involved in the brutal collision, and according to family members, Wildomar resident Mike Rivera-Aguilar, 38, was lucky to escape with his life.

After Javier Caldera, 25, the driver of a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado, slammed at a high rate of speed into the back of Janet Genao's 2015 Nissan Altima it caused a chain reaction crash that forced Rivera-Aguilar and his Chevrolet S-10 pickup off the righthand shoulder of the freeway and into the side the of the Temecula City Hall parking structure.

Caldera was charged on Thursday with second-degree murder as well as including driving under the influence of a drug with sentencing enhancements of causing great bodily injury.

According to his fiance, Amber Rivera, Rivera-Aguilar suffered a broken back, leg breaks in five places, broken ribs, fractures in his face, and multiple stitches and staples all over his body.

On Thursday, June 6, she shared an update on Facebook regarding his condition and the road to recovery that he faces.

"I just want to thank everybody for all the love, prayers, well wishes, money, meal train, and support. You are all such a huge blessing to us I can't even put into words just how much I appreciate you all!!!" the post reads. "My husband and family will forever be changed by this accident. He is extremely lucky to be alive. Mike is in construction and will most likely never be able to work in that profession again. Again thank you all!"
