RIVERSIDE - A driver's license and sobriety checkpoint in Lake Elsinore resulted in the arrest of one suspected intoxicated driver, a sheriff's sergeant said on Sunday, June 2.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department conducted the checkpoint, between 9 p.m. Friday and 3 a.m. Saturday at an undisclosed location in the city.

Of the 1,807 drivers screened, one person was arrested on suspicion of drugged driving and another person was arrested on suspicion of "other criminal charges,'' Sgt. Steve Jimenez said.

In addition, 23 people were either cited or arrested for driving unlicensed or with a suspended license, he said.

The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
