CORONA - A fire possibly ignited by two young boys near the Riverside (91) Freeway in Corona today scorched roughly an acre before crews got it under control.

The non-injury blaze was reported at 2:38 p.m. along Serfas Club Drive, near Frontage Road, just south of the freeway, according to the Corona Fire Department.

Two engine crews from the Corona and another from Riverside County reached the location within a few minutes of it being reported and encountered flames raging in a grassy field.

One resident told the California Highway Patrol that the fire was approaching her back patio, but no damage was reported.

Firefighters stopped the fire's forward rate of spread within 20 minutes and declared the blaze contained shortly after 3 p.m., according to reports from the scene.

Witnesses reported seeing two boys running away from where the fire started, and arson investigators were summoned to look for them and gather evidence, according to the fire department.

Crews were expected to finish mopping up by 5 p.m.
