NUEVO - A brush fire that erupted on Tuesday, June 18 near a Nuevo intersection blackened about three acres and destroyed a storage building before it was knocked down.

The non-injury blaze was reported about 4:50 p.m. in the 28800 block of Mapes Road, just west of Menifee Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Multiple engine crews reached the location within a few minutes and encountered flames burning toward an outbuilding on private property.

An air tanker and water-dropping helicopter were initially requested to make runs on the brusher, but a battalion chief canceled the air support when the fire was fully contained at 5:05 p.m.

The unoccupied outbuilding was destroyed by the blaze, according to the fire department.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
