MURRIETA - Two felons accused of robbing and fatally shooting a 61-year-old Anza man pleaded not guilty on Thursday, June 27 to first-degree murder.

Brandon Noll Pollard, 27, of Escondido and Maxwell Hakole Reynolds, 28, of Anza, are also charged with kidnapping to commit robbery and face a special circumstance allegation of killing in the course of a robbery.

The defendants, who are being held without bail at the Robert Presley Jail in Riverside, are due back at the Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta on Aug. 16 for a felony settlement conference.

Khamsene Singnolay died soon after he made it to Riverside County Fire Department Station No. 29 at 56560 Highway 371 in Anza just before midnight on June 4, according to sheriff's officials.

Sgt. Rick Espinoza said the victim had been shot in the upper body, and firefighters initiated life-saving treatment, but he died before an ambulance could get there.

Detectives determined that the shooting had occurred a short time earlier in the area of Bautista Canyon and Trip Flats roads, Espinoza said.

He said the two defendants were identified after evidence was gathered and witnesses were interviewed, but the circumstances behind the shooting were not disclosed.

Reynolds was arrested on June 7, and Pollard was arrested the following day, Espinoza said.

According to court records, both Pollard and Reynolds have served time in state prison within the last five years. However, details about their prior convictions were not available.
