Mt. San Jacinto College's registered nursing program ranked No. 7 out of 160 programs in California for best-value registered nursing programs, according to Nursing Explorer.

SAN JACINTO – Mt. San Jacinto College's registered nursing program ranked No. 7 out of 160 programs in California for best-value RN programs, according to Nursing Explorer.

Nursing Explorer, a nursing education and career resource center, calculates the rankings by considering a college's National Council Licensure Examination pass rate and the net price of attendance for a student who receives the average amount of financial aid.

"The higher the NCLEX pass rate of the program, and the lower the cost, the better the return on investment," Nursing Explorer said of its rankings.

The demand for nurses continues to grow in the area and Mt. San Jacinto College students are sought out by local agencies, Peter Zografos, Ph.D., Mt. San Jacinto College nursing program director, said.

Mt. San Jacinto College nursing students participate in an occupational internship with local agencies and gain hands-on experience, he said. All graduates who have participated in the occupational internship program, in past years, have secured employment through their internship.

Getting a job in the field of study is one of the reasons Mt. San Jacinto College's allied health and nursing program earned a silver star award from the California Community College Chancellor's Office.

In May, Mt. San Jacinto College held a nurse pinning ceremony for its 46 nursing graduates. They were among 1,707 graduates earning a record-breaking 3,314 degrees and certificates from Mt. San Jacinto College this academic year.

Mt. San Jacinto College launched its Mt. San Jacinto College Promise program, June 17, that will provide free tuition to first-time, full-time students beginning this fall. Learn more about the new program at www.msjc.edu/free. All applications will be reviewed and considered on a first-come, first-served basis depending on availability of funds.
