Brush fire west of Hemet damages structures

HEMET - A brush fire that erupted on Friday, July 5 just west of Hemet scorched about an acre and damaged several outbuildings before it was stopped.

The non-injury blaze was reported at 2:32 p.m. in the area of El Centro Avenue and Winchester Road, at the halfway point between Hemet and Homeland, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Multiple engine crews from the county and Hemet Fire Department converged on the location within a few minutes and established defensive lines for several houses.

Despite the effort, a detached garage and a shed in the 33800 block of El Centro were damaged by the flames, according to reports from the scene.

The fire was declared fully contained at 3:05 p.m.

The cause was under investigation.
