PERRIS - A grass fire that erupted late Thursday, July 11 on the west end of Perris blackened roughly 10 acres before crews got it under control.

The non-injury blaze was reported at 5:10 p.m. in the area of Decker Road and Markham Street, on the western edge of the city, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

A battalion chief at the scene said flames burned through high grass at a moderate pace, briefly threatening one residence.

At 6:20 p.m., the blaze was declared 100 percent contained, but crews were expected to remain at the location, mopping up, until about 10 p.m.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
