Atlanta Falcons RB Ricky Ortiz demonstrates his running technique to camp attendees at the first ever Ortiz Football Camp in Temecula Saturday, June 22.

Local youth football players, ranging in age from 9 to 18, got the opportunity to perform in front of elite level NFL players, local high school coaches and top high school standouts at a recent football camp held at Linfield High School in Temecula. The Ortiz football camp was held Saturday, June 22, and put on by Ricky Ortiz, who plays NFL Football for the Atlanta Falcons. Ortiz went to Mater Dei High School and was drafted into the NFL in 2017.

Joining Ortiz at the camp, to help run things, was Long Snapper specialist Ryan Navarro (Redskins, Raiders and Alliance League Memphis Express), Dustin Stanton (Dallas Cowboys Offensive Line), Sean Harlow (Atlanta Falcons Offensive Line), Alex Ruiz (Linfield Quarterback; 2019 graduate), Gene Miranda (Linfield QB coach), Mike Neal (Great Oak High School coach) and DeChon Burns (Linfield High School Head Coach, Redskins, Eagles, 49ers, Florida, UTEP).

Linfield Head Coach DeChon Burns discusses strategies with local campers during the first ever Ortiz Football Camp.

According to Ortiz, the objective of the camp was not about building the star rating of the athletes, it was to build character by sharing stories of current NFL athletes. It was also about teaching the youth the importance of believing in themselves, persevering in affliction, being patient with the process, and staying committed to the dream.

"Having the opportunity to give back to those in the community was a dream come true. My heart has always been set on today's youth," Ortiz said. "Growing up, I did not have experiences with professional athletes and a lot of them were role models of mine. I aspired to be just like them one day."
