Anza Electric Cooperative member Andrea Beach will participate in CoBank's No Barriers program for disabled veterans, having received one of 50 scholarships to attend.

ANZA – Anza Electric Cooperative and their finance partner CoBank, announced the acceptance of local veteran Andrea Beach in the No Barriers USA Program for 2019.

In April 2019, Anza Electric Cooperative nominated Andrea Beach, an Anza Electric Cooperative member, to participate in the CoBank No Barriers program and she was awarded one of 50 CoBank sponsorships given to disabled veterans.

Beach said she's looking forward to the camaraderie of the program.

"There are experiences that veterans share in common. I'm excited by the opportunity to interact with other vets from across the nation in the program," Beach said.

The CoBank/No Barriers program for rural veterans provides an opportunity for veterans with disabilities to challenge their own limitations, both real and perceived, physical and mental. Through successfully completing demanding activities like rafting, rock climbing and hiking, participants become better-equipped to overcome the obstacles they face in their daily lives. By sharing the experience with other veterans with disabilities, they also build a network of support that can last a lifetime.

"We are thrilled for Andrea as a participant in the No Barriers Program," AEC General Manager Kevin Short said. "Our partnership with CoBank makes opportunities such as this possible for our community and our members. We're hoping to hear great things about her experience in August."

America's rural communities are home to millions of men and women who have served in our armed forces, many of whom are living with a disability. CoBank has partnered with No Barriers USA and their customers such as Anza Electric to honor and support these veterans by, each year, sponsoring up to 50 rural veterans with disabilities to experience the No Barriers Warriors program. CoBank's sponsorship covers all associated costs for each veteran participant.
