Lake Elsinore set to enact mandatory spay, neuter and microchipping

Beginning Aug. 1, all dogs and cats in the city of Lake Elsinore must be microchipped and spayed or neutered.

LAKE ELSINORE – In March, in partnership with Animal Friends of the Valleys, the Lake Elsinore City Council approved changes to the Lake Elsinore Municipal Code requiring that dogs or cats within the city must be microchipped and spayed or neutered. Additionally, council unanimously agreed to remove all cat licensing requirements.

The changes were encouraged by Animal Friends of the Valleys throughout southwest Riverside County to address increasing pet overpopulation and to save animal lives.
