Brush fire west of Hemet damages structures

A brush fire that erupted Thursday, July 4, just west of Hemet scorched about an acre and damaged several outbuildings before it was stopped.

The non-injury blaze was reported at 2:32 p.m. in the area of El Centro Avenue and Winchester Road, at the halfway point between Hemet and Homeland, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Multiple engine crews from the county and Hemet Fire Department converged on the location within a few minutes and established defensive lines for several houses.
