SAN JACINTO - A child was killed and a woman and two other children were injured on Friday, July 12 when the vehicle they were riding in crashed into a drainage culvert in San Jacinto.

Deputies responded to a major injury traffic crash in the area of Sanderson and Cottonwood avenues about 8:40 a.m. and located the vehicle, described as a burgundy Scion coupe, with four victims inside, according to Sgt. Bryan De Loss of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

All four victims were taken to a hospital in Moreno Valley, where one of the children was pronounced dead, De Loss said.

A preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle was traveling northbound on Sanderson Avenue when the driver veered to the right and crashed into the drainage culvert, causing major damage to the vehicle, he said.

Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash, De Loss said.

The name of the child who died was not released.

The names and conditions of the injured adult and children were not disclosed.

Anyone who witnessed the crash was asked to call Deputy Rutigliano at the sheriff's San Jacinto Station at 951-654-2702.
