NUEVO (CNS) - An aggressive air and ground attack from firefighters stopped the forward progress of a 50-acre wildfire in Nuevo today amid triple-digit temperatures, fire officials said.

The blaze broke out at about 10:30 a.m. in the 27000 block of Orange Avenue, according to Tawny Cabral of the Riverside County Fire Department.

When fire crews first arrived on scene, they reported that the size of the blaze was a quarter-acre and burning at a slow rate. By 12:40 p.m., the flames had blackened 50 acres, but the fire's spread had been stopped by the 90 firefighters on the ground.

A helicopter and two air tankers also assisted from the air.
